AHERA

Dear Parents, Students, and Staff Members,

In 1986, the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) was signed into law requiring all public and non-profit private schools (K-12) to inspect for the presence of Asbestos Containing Building Materials.

P.H. Ricker completed the initial inspection on our schools in September of 1988 and Symtec Consulting, Inc. continues to monitor the status of any materials found to contain asbestos. A periodic inspection is conducted every six months. A copy of the inspection, subsequent re-inspections, and a Management Plan devised to keep in compliance with applicable regulations can be viewed at the school’s main office. Copies of the material are available for nominal copying charges.

We, at District 49, are committed to providing a safe and healthy environment for our students and staff. We have completed multiple projects in the past; where we hired a licensed asbestos removal contractor to remove some of the asbestos containing material from three schools and completely removed asbestos from three schools. As we complete more projects in the future, we will continue to abate it until all of it has been removed.
